1. Free Consultation

Next, schedule an appointment with a HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) approved counselor — also known as your third-party reverse mortgage counselor. Your counselor will provide you with documents that you will need to complete; they will then review them and explain the details of a reverse mortgage again to ensure that you have all the information you need to continue the process.
The agency will then issue you a counseling certificate that will allow you to begin the reverse mortgage petition. By law, we cannot proceed with your loan until we have confirmation that you have completed the counseling.
If you have decided that a reverse mortgage is the right move for you, it’s now time to complete the application and choose how to receive payment! There are three main options that can be combined:
- Lump Sum Payment
- Monthly Payments
- Line of Credit which grows over time
4. Processing and Appraisal
Once the application is completed, an appraisal will be ordered to determine the value of your property. Afterward, we will tell you the exact amount of your reverse mortgage.
5. Submit Loan and Underwriting
The person in charge of deciding to approve or decline a loan is called an underwriter. It’s common for them to request additional information before issuing an approval; nonetheless, we will work with you and the underwriter to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
6. Loan Approval
When your application is approved, one of our representatives will contact you and review your loan terms with you.
7. Loan Closing
Congratulations, you are almost ready to enjoy the perks of your reverse mortgage! We will work with you to schedule a time to close your loan. You can choose to visit the title company, or we will send the lender’s attorney to your home to witness the signing of your loan documents.
